Swedish Meatball Inspiration

I hear about Swedish meatballs from time to time.

But there is always a debate about is it Swedish and what spices are you supposed to use... and then theres the challenge of how to make them grain free and dairy free. I was inspired by “Swedish” meatballs but make of it what you want.

 

 

Ingredients:

 

Meat balls

  • 2 lb ground beef

  • 1 1/4 tsp nutmeg

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1.5 basil

  • 2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp pepper

  • 1.5 tbsp garlic

  • 1/2 onion

  • 1 egg

 

Sauce

  • 4 cups broth

  • 1 can full fat coconut milk

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil

  • 2 tsp dijon mustard

  • 1 tbsp garlic

  • 1 tbsp maple syrup

  • 1 tbsp vinegar

  • 1 tsp basil

  • 1/2 cup coconut flour

 

Directions:

 

  • Use a medium bowl for meatballs

  • Chop onoin

  • Place 2 lb of ground beef , onion, spices and egg in a bowl

  • Mash ingredience together and form into meat balls

  • As you form them place them in a large deep skilet 

  • Cook your meat balls in a few tbsp of olive oil  

  • You want the outside of the meatballs to brown and cook through

  • Remove meatballs from the pan but leave any juices left behind

  • For the sauce use the same pan with jucies in it

  • place all suace ingredients in the pan stir till well mixed

  • Let simmer for 10 minutes

  • Add in meatballs for 2 minutes 

  • Serve
